Now that there is a plan, Implement it
Dublin Chamber Budget Response
Budget 2011 followed through on much of what was laid out in the four year plan, but it did not provide an implementation plan to foster enterprise. The Chamber welcomed the reduction of Tourism Tax, which is one of the few measures to stimulate the domestic economy. Capital spending is budgeted to fall by 25% in 2011 to 3.6% of GNP; however, Government have indicated that they will stimulate further capital investment by attracting private finance. Reform of BES was also address but we're awaiting further details to see if it indeed broadens the eligible sectors it applies to. Budget 2011 also saw key high value workers hit by higher Marginal Employment Tax Rates.

Dublin Mayor Legislation moves to committee debate
Office requires more power to drive efficiency in local authorities
The Dublin Chamber of Commerce has voiced its concerns about the debate taking place in Dáil on the Local Government (Dublin Mayor) Bill 2010, which will lead to a directly elected Mayor for Dublin.  While Dublin Chamber strongly supports the concept of a Mayor for Dublin, the draft legislation does not give the office the powers it requires to drive efficiencies in Local Government and promoting the economic interests of the city region.

The Dublin Chamber of Commerce Business Owners Network gives owner managers the opportunity to meet, share ideas, solve problems, build relationships and increase business opportunities. The Business Owners Network meets twice a month on Friday mornings.   Membership of the Business Owners Network is open to the Business Owners / Managing Directors of companies that are already fully paid members of Dublin Chamber.  Contact Ciara to register your interest.

A new initiative to establish a Dublin Region opinion panel for those that live, work or study in the city.  Over 2,100 people are now registered. Registration and survey takes only 5 minutes. Tell them what you think of Dublin and you could win a helicopter tour of the city. This is an initiative of Dublin's four local authorities and the Dublin Regional Authority.
