Planning Dublin | O'Connell St, Phoenix Park, North Docklands
Recent months have seen a splurge of news regarding developments and changes in Dublin city. The city’s public realm north of the Liffey is set for a welcome shake-up, with plans soon to be announced for the redevelopment of the old Carlton Cinema site on Upper O'Connell Street. Some snippets of the plan were revealed recently, which the Chamber welcomed.
The Office of Public Works is looking to make changes to one of the city’s greatest assets - the Phoenix Park - and recently ran a consultation regarding its Phoenix Park Strategic Review. The Chamber shared its views on the strategy via this submission, which expressed concern at the lack of engagement with the public and also plans for more commercial space in the park. Our full submission is here.
In December last year, the Department for Housing, Planning and Local Government issued a new set of guidelines to increase building heights in support of greater urban density where appropriate in an urban setting. We’ve been campaigning to ensure these regulatory changes are being used to good effect for the North Lotts and Grand Canal area of the city. Our submission, which calls for taller buildings to be allowed in the North Docklands area, can be read here.
