But the same economic and social challenges remain. A new Government, whatever its party composition, will have to address the urgent need for modern city infrastructure, affordable and well-planned housing, and a strong competitive edge in an increasingly volatile global economy. But the same economic and social challenges remain. A new Government, whatever its party composition, will have to address the urgent need for modern city infrastructure, affordable and well-planned housing, and a strong competitive edge in an increasingly volatile global economy. These are critical priorities for business, for Dublin, and for Irish society at large.

Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin are now the largest parties in Dáil Éireann, with just one seat between them, while Fine Gael has been relegated to third place. As negotiations to form a Government get under way, Dublin Chamber will be reminding all parties of the commitments they made to us during the election campaign and over the past year.

Addressing Dublin Chamber members three weeks ago, Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin to a 25% Capital Gains Tax rate and adopted Chamber policy on Entrepreneur Relief. His party manifesto also promised to make progress on the DART Underground project in the lifetime of the next Government, a long-time ask of the Chamber. The Green Party has made a similar commitment.

Speaking at a Dublin Chamber event last year, Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald committed to maintaining the 12.5% corporation tax rate which is critical to Ireland’s foreign direct investment strategy, and assured Chamber members that Sinn Féin would be heedful of business concerns.

Ireland’s small open economy model is the foundation of current and future prosperity. Employment has risen by over 400,000 since the low point of the crash, and that recovery was driven by the private sector. Private enterprise generates the wealth needed to pay for badly needed public infrastructure and better public services. Ireland’s ability to plan ahead and provide for our growing population is entirely underpinned by our business-friendly environment.

As parties work to agree a Programme for Government, the business community must use its voice. Dublin Chamber’s General Election Manifesto called for a ‘Decade of Delivery’ to secure a sustainable future for Dublin, and we will continue to promote this agenda.

Please do your own part by contacting your newly elected TDs and voicing support for the Chamber agenda.
Invite: Talking Enterprise with DBEI's Declan Hughes http://dublinchamberofcommerce.newsweaver.ie/DublinChamberofCommerceEzine/1beyj7trbo1?rss=true [ http://dublinchamberofcommerce.newsweaver.ie/DublinChamberofCommerceEzine/ipawog003uf/external ] Join us on Friday 28th February to hear from one of Ireland’s leading policy-makers, responsible for enterprise and indigenous business. If An Post can do this, delivering to more than 70,000 premises daily in this area, there is no reason why other companies can’t. Let’s aim for a 100% Green Delivery Zone in Dublin.

Kate Ruddock, Deputy Director, Friends of the Earth said, “We commend An Post for leading the way to become the first postal service in the world to attain zero carbon emission delivery status in a capital city. We also commend An Post for rolling-out their green delivery zone to other major cities and towns across Ireland whilst calling on other organisations to do the same benefitting the health and air quality of the country.”

Aligned with Project Ireland 2040’s vision of a low carbon economy, An Post has committed to eliminating 50% of carbon from all postal and delivery operations in Ireland by 2025, having brought forward the commitment from 2030 thus saving 20,000 tonnes of Carbon, and 100% by 2040.
